Just wondering if anyone on here might have a good used or possibly new Deere lift cylinder for a 541 loader. Part numbers AH205047 or AH160179. We have tried several places but no luck other than Deere's high price. The old one has been to a couple shops and they cannot get it to come apart.

Please more fully explain "they cannot get it to come apart."

Did they remove both snap rings? Remove the external one, then the gland needs to be tapped into the barrel a bit to remove the second (internal) one from the groove in the barrel. If the gland won't move in, I would heat the area some then try to tap the gland inward. You are rebuilding it so there is no problem if the heat damages the sealing parts. Once the snap rings are removed Use the rod as a slide hammer to bump the gland out. If that doesn't work you can plug the port at the rod end of the barrel and hook up a port-a-power pump to the barrel end port to push the rod and gland out of the barrel. Best to fill the barrel with oil first to get the air out and maybe not have to refill the port-a-power pump multiple times as the air needs to be purged, you want a solid oil fill. Since a liquid does not compress (at least as far as practical purposes here) the oil energy will dissipate as soon as it as an escape path. Using air could send the rod flying as it expands once things start moving.
