JD D Radiator bolts

I am looking for advise on how to take the bolts out that hold the core to the upper and lower castings. Just sure I will twist off the very first one I attemp to remove. Any advise will be greatly appreciated. 1948 core is showing slight leaks, I feel the only right way is to re gasket both top and bottom.

When I did my B I heated the bolts with a torch and then put candle wax up against the bolt. As it melts it will get pulled in and the bolt came out easy. You may have to repeat the step on really stubborn bolts.

I found that after heating the bolts up to a red glow pouring cold water on them will cause them to shrink and usually turn right out.

A new core is likely in order too. The solder cracks around the tubes with age and then you get a seeper.

I was afrade of melting the core if Iheated too much. Must be very careful with the heat. Not heard of the wax process, worth a try. Thanks to all

A few years ago I had to replace the core in my A. Someone on this site [ I'm sorry I don' remember who ] said to heat each to cherry red and let them cool slow. It worked perfect. Every one came out no trouble.

I should have said just use a propane torch and the wax. You won't hurt anything. Muffler guys use the wax to unstick rusted bye and it works great.
