JD Factory Cab

JD Didnt make a factory cab until late in the 4020 era did they? A 1965 4020 with rear door access would
have been an aftermarket, not factory? Thanks for the insite - Bob

The Crenlo cab, some of which were rear entry, was available in the mid 60's from the factory. Crenlo cabs are shown in the parts books of 4020s. These did not have roll gards inside.

the next "factory" cab was the Stolper, made in Menominee Falls, WI. These were available with ROPS, so starting some time in or after 1966 when ROPS came on the scene. Their use seems to have ended at about the time of the end of the 1970 model year. Stolper seems to have offered a modified version of this cab (I think called Safety gard) as an aftermarket cab.

The last "factory" 4020 cab was the Hinson, made in Iowa, available in '71 and '72.

Hope this helps.

There were factory cabs available for the 5010. I have a copy of a very early sales brochure dated 64-5 (May 1965) that shows cabs on early 3020,4020 and 5010 tractors. They had a different shape to them. The windeshield was strait and as wide as the platform then both sides went back on an angle with the rest being square.I have seen one of these at a sale years ago.Deere also had another cab that was more common latter in early 4020 production. If my brochure was not a copy I would try to post it. Tom

Ansel/Stolper/Hinson are cab brands I remember having to deal with in the 1980's/90's working on 4020 cab tractors at the dealership....I couldn't tell you what was 'factory' 4020 in the day(before my time)...seems like many were Ansels??

Here is the JD/ Crenlo ; with two piece door Jim mentioned ... We always called them 'box' cabs... pic shows cab factory equipped on '68' 4020...Probably one of last ones , as Stolper's came on '69's..// I've seen a lot of them on 5020's in the northern states & provinces...

Those later crenlo looks god on 5020.
There was an earlier crenlo that is much taller and that is weld solid to the fenders of the 5020 tractor.
As far as dust goes, the Crenlo has to be better than the Stolper and Hinson, because the floor is all well enclosed and the seat is integrated in the cab. (on 5020's).

We have came a long way on JD cabs.I actually had a 1968 that had a stolper cab with roll bar that appeared to have came that way but some dealerships did such a good job installing them that it was hard to tell.I just had 4 1972 4020s with the Hinsen cabs and 3 had A/C and 2 worked and 3rd one needed a compressor but buyer got it working. The one without was taken off and parted out. I had new ones with factory cabs and thought they were really nice at the time but now wonder why I can still hear. They subtract about $1000+ or more from there value at least for resale. In the late 60s and early 70s aftermarket cab companies like Cozy,Hiniker,YearRound,Full Vision were at there peak and fenders were everywhere .Now a nice pair of fenders are hard to find.I offered to trade a factory cab for set of nice 4320 fenders and never got a response.I have seen 3 4320s with Stolper cabs and still cant fiqure that out.The had to be dealer installed as Hinsen should have been on 4320s in 71&72.
