JD G Starter Gear Reduction Light Weight

Please help. I have a flat head on a stock bore 1950 John Deere G. I would like to lose a more pounds for tractor pulling. I have searched this forum, but cannot find a good answer. What would you recommend for a light weight gear reduction starter for my JD G? I starts without compression release pretty easily. Thank you very much.

Thanks for the one response so far. I can't find the weight online. Will it bolt directly on my 1950 G? The right number of teeth on the starter? Thanks again.

It bolts right on. As far was loosing weight, there are many ways. Replace the radiator and fan with an aluminum one and electric fan, remove power trol set up and replace with an aluminum hitch from Tim Harlin, have the bull gears turned down and differential also can be lightened, hollow axles with weld on hubs, the right style of tire and make it a 6 ply, light weight rims, aluminum weight brackets and wheelie bars, fiberglass tappet cover, tin crankcase cover as well as the 5th and 6th gear side cover, get rid of the original gas tank and go with a small aluminum one, replace the floor pad with aluminum as well as the seat frame, and then if that all isn't enough you can start grinding. You can cut the frame, replace the steering shaft with a hollow pipe, axle housing has a lot of fat in it, shifting column can be made out of aluminum, and have the driver stay away from the buffets. Mine I can get into the 4500 lb class with some front weight. My son gets into the 4250 with front weights.

This one posted sure looks like the ones we have used for years on our A & G's. They are lighter &
much stronger than the JD foot controlled ones.

T H A N K S ! I purchased the exact one you specified. It fit perfectly. It works perfectly. Weighs about 15 pounds compared to about 30 pounds for the original starter. I now have a JD G starter for a spare. Cost was just a touch above $100 plus free shipping. T H A N K S again!
