JD Grain Drill Model B depth setting

On my grain drill the power lift has only two adjustments to set the depth of the furrow opener. A connecting link, which I have set for shallow penetration and a hand wheel for finer adjustments. Now my problem! After adjusting the drill to these positions the depth is still too deep. I was planting wheat and rye this past weekend in sandy soil and was unable to plant less than 2". This was also the first time I used the drill. Does anyone know what to do to correct this problem? Thanks

Look on the opener spring tension rod there is an adjustable piece you can move down to lessen the tension on the springs. It can even be moved all the way down towards the opener.

Changing depth adjustment on An older JD drill is accomplished by turning the wheels(if not frozen) on the mechanical lifts. Some drills had crank handles that could be accessed from tractor seat instead of wheels for depth adjustment.
