JD H gasket

I have a 1941 John Deere H in "rehab" and have all the manuals but cannot find a gasket that goes between the axle housings (AH679R, AH680R) and the main case (AH789R). Where can I find a part number if there is one?
Thanks Otis

Otis, I also have a 41 H.
If I needed that gasket, I would buy some gasket material and use a ball peen hammer to make one.
Easy to do.

Your 1940 H is serial-number 20615-35698. There is an instruction and parts list manual for the H and HN. On page 40 it list your main case number and your axle housing number. No gasket listed, so no gasket part number. I would say no gasket! It does list an oil seal for the rear axle inner bearing.

Thanks for your reply---I think you are right-no gasket. I will take off the right side soon and see if it too has no gasket.
Thanks again!! Otis

Jim MN is correct - there is no gasket between the main case and the axle housing and there is no need for one as the interior of the axle housing is intended to be dry and empty. There is an AH633R lip seal that prevents transmission oil from getting into the axle housing but it is known to fail and allow oil to contaminate the brakes. The "H" is notorious for water (both rain and condensation) getting into the transmission and raising the oil level, flooding and overwhelming that seal. On the very bottom of the mounting flange of the axle housing is a 1/4" diameter drain hole that is intended to permit any liquids inside the axle housing to drain out. This hole often is plugged with dirt and crud which prevents proper drainage.
