JD hydraulic check

Can some one explain to me how to check easily the hydraulic on a JD without placing a implement on the machine. I suspect that I would need a cylinder and hose with a pressure gauge on it is my first guess. Maybe it is easier. What kind of pressure should I expect at PTO RPM for a JD 2510 gas.

To check the pressure all you need is a gauge and a hyd. coupling tip. Then just plug it in an outlet and work the lever and check the pressure. I think those are to be 2250 psi ?

But this won't tell you how the flow is. You could have good pressure and low flow. I you put a load on the 3pt. and see how fast it comes up and if it is smooth. Otherwise you will need a flow meter.

If you don't have a flow-meter you can plug in a remote cyl. and leave it lay on the shop floor, bring up the engine RPM's to 2100 and cycle the remote in and out, a good speed should be about 3-4 seconds,,10-15 would reflect low flow and yes you can have full 2250 PSI. and low flow, almost all 2510's only have a 4 piston pump, you can ugrade to an 8 piston by changeing it out, a 4020 8 piston will boly right in if you need more flow.

Thanks Tim,

It appears after looking at another 2510 my neighbor has that it is possible the hydraulic pump that is making the noise. How difficult time and expensive is it to replace the pump including an upgrade to the 8 valve one?

This is a wide front end? Can I just remove the cover plate and pull the pump out?

The standard 2510 pump is made "cheap", no bearings just bushings and only 4 pistons instead of 8..A new re-placement 4020 pump from Deere is about $1,600, I'm checking on an after-market pump for one I have in the shop now, will know more about it the first of the week, to remove yours I drop the front end out, I use a forklift to cradle it down out, to go out the top you would need to remove the fuel tank, not as easey as it looks, it seems like I'm pulling 1 or 2 pumps a week around here so it don't seem to much of a problem to me ,,I did 2 2510's the last couple of weeks ago both of them were 4 piston pumps and both were leaking out the front shaft, so I just re-sealed them and they were okay, but the owners were just doing light chores with them and didn't need a lot of flow, they did not have a loader on them..
