JD lift pump

My lift pump started leaking between the top and bottom sections so I went to the world wide web and purchased a knock off from what turned out to be China, which could very well be my first mistake, when it arrived I unpacked it and while examining it I tried to push the arm that rides against the cam lobe and to my surprise could not budge it? Is that normal? It's been many years since I had anything to do with a fuel lift pump but it seems I remember it wasn't that hard to work that lever with the pump held in my hand. Is the pump I received right, or is it faulty?
It seems to me if it pushes that hard it would cause some rapid wear on the cam lobe, maybe I'm wrong in my thinking though (it's happened before) so I'm asking the experts for advice with this issue. Thanks in advance for any help.

These pumps are readily available at any good auto parts store including NAPA. Who and where there made is anyone's guess. I've had pretty good luck with them although none of them last anywhere near as long as the old originals. Good Luck! John

Thanks, my question really was more asking if it's possible to operate the pump by hand off the machine. I haven't removed my original pump yet because if the new one is faulty my tractor is dead in the water.

Yeah, I guess if your really strong you might be able to. If push the lever against, say a vise you probably can. They are pretty strong though.

I recently got tired of my lift pump leaking on my 3010 diesel. So I beleive I bought one off of Ebay. It was chinese. It was advertised to replace #RE42211. I have not installed it yet. It is one of those lift pumps that has the two cylinders coming out of the bowl. The cam lever was very stiff. I eventually could move it a bit. It seems like the plungers in the cylinders are very tight, which I suppose is a good thing.

Ok Thanks, I will inspect mine closer and see if I can get to move at all. It just seems now like it's rock solid....maybe I'm just getting old and weak...lol. You are the second one to say they move extremely hard so I will work off of that. I'm sure it's the correct pump, that's not the issue it looks exactly like the one on it now.

There's NO "plungers in the cylinders", It's a diaphragm pump. The inlet and outlet valves are at the bottom of the "cylinders".
The pump builds pressure on the "backside" of the cam, as the lever is "released" so the output pressure is determined by the strength of the spring.
