JD Model D Timing

There should be timing marks to line up on the crank and camshaft gears, sometimes they can be hard to find under the grease and oil. To time the governor, align the LH Impulse mark on flywheel with mark on tractor main case(TDC), and then place the governor so that the magneto drive flange is horizontal. woodvue

Unless early D's are different, there should be a mark on the crank. It took me a few tries with a strong light to find the one on my '44 D. If there is one on the cam gear there should be a corresponding one for it to mate with. I don't know how you would do it without 2 marks.

If you guys would read the book you would Know. There is a raised casting on flywheel that says "left hand exhaust open" that Must be within 1" of mark when left hand exhaust valve starts to open. there will be marks on crank and cam only if someone besides deere put them there.Paul
