JD Model H piston ring installation

We found light rusting in one cylinder and at this point intend to hone the bore and install new rings. There appears to be two ways to install rings, i.e. move the block forward and access the piston without removing the connecting rod from the crankshaft OR remove the connecting rods from the crankshaft and pull the pistons our the front. Is there a proper or preferred method?
Thank you. Gene

someone always comes up with a different question. never heard of that or seen it done. pull the pistons out . then the block can be
inspected and honed.

Gene, even though not much bigger bore than a snowmobile, you do not pull cylinder off piston like a snowmobile. The front of block has a bulit
in ring compressor on the H block if my memory serves me right??
