JD MX8 Problem

I have a JD MX8 bushhog. The PTO shaft keeps coming off the drive gear. It is a spline type setup with a bolt to keep the shaft tight on the spline. I have tried many bolts to tighten the shaft on the spline, but she just keeps flying off. I gave up and parked it I. The field. What is wrong and how can I fix this. Spline looks good to me. Help plea.

Does driveshaft telescope freely IE have you lubricated sliding pieces? Are you utilizing correct diameter bolts which I think is M14 in dia.?

I will second checking the PTO shaft. IF it slides hard it will do what yours is doing.

I have a snow blower that would do the same thing but the shaft slide easy. I found out it was worn enough it would cam lock while under load and then it slide hard. It would cut the PTO yoke bottom pin. Replaced the sliding parts and all is good now.

I have ran mx7 for many years.. never had that issue.. My thoughts also went to the telescoping pto.. as has been addressed..
