JD R Starting engine...

I wanted to get my dad"s JD R out for the fair today, but the starting engine wouldn"t start. It turns over no problem, has fuel, spark and everything. It hasn"t ran in over a year but last time i fired it up after a year both engines fired up no problem. It has fresh gas and everything... any ideas as to what i can try next? thanks

i got the same problem with my uncles r. the pony gas tank had sand in it so i thkink i am gonna go though the carb. let me know if you find any thing else out

check the backflow (check) valve in the fuel line that goes into the tank. I had one stick on an R after sitting for a while. The tank was full but the valve was stuck shut so the engine could not draw it in.
