JD to pioneer conversion kit question

I’m working on a ‘79 2640, and it the earlier series of serial numbers and I want to convert the two pairs of hydraulic couplers on the rear from the JD style to the pioneer. I want to install the kit that changes them over vs using adapters or something.
On the JD parts lookup, it’s says the correct kit part number is RE12121 and it no longer available, but that it’s been substituted by RE206778. When I go to that part number, it says it’s not compatible with my tractor. Is that just a quirk of the website, because when I look for the RE12121 kit on eBay, they show that both kits are the same and they will send you the RE206778.
Also, anyone know why some of the kits are like $105 and other listing for the same thing are like $250? The prices are all over the map, yet they use the same pictures for all of them.
Any advice on which ones are no good?

the new John Deere parts website has had some struggles on my end as well does that happen to be where you are checking compatibility? For awhile they weren’t doing much with anything older than 50 series you could still find the part on the NEW website if you knew the number but you wouldn’t be able to see your tractor

So jd parts is still needed.

I have not tried all the conversions but I’d suggest one you understand how to couple and can seat the hose without trouble that’s different for everyone. My ford, the 2555 and the 2 cylinders have iso couplers that are easy to connect to and don’t pop out spring loaded lock in only one direction so you can uncouple them. I didn’t know what the difference was until I asked the hydraulic shop man why the hoses for the pickup truck dump wagon were such a bugger to get off and there is a difference. A lot of the newer tractors are just push to seat and have to be nice and clean and perfect (not frozen) to connect without getting out of the cab 6 times to pop it in.

Faster seems to be the brand of coupler now John Deere likes and that first kit you had was one of theirs I’m not dead set on them i only used my loader coupler on the 6430 twice and it was made by them and then it leaks so I’d look around. they might sell them at ASAP for less.

The 2555 is attached by hoses as well I believe your couplers at the 2640 are more a new generation style with steel lines to the coupler body. You could make something simple and ditch those coupler bodies entirely it’s kind of sad that the 2 cylinder and ford couple enough easier I’d rather use them than tractors made in the last 70 years but hey progress is fun. And yes no breakaways on any of those but unhook the hoses when you unhook the implement.

If you are dead set on breakaways there are still options out there

I've read JD ISO conversion kits for 40 series tractors are prone to leaking.
If I was going to change a JD 40 series utility tractor breakaway coupler to ISO type receptables I'd FIRST chose "Groove-Waspi conversion" or cheaper style 55 series JD utility tractor ISO breakaway.

See following links.
