JD transmissions

I'm a long time JD guy, albeit the 2 cylinder type. Lately, Ive been thinking about getting a later model, too. I see terms such as "Power Shift", "Quad Range", "Side Console", etc relating to transmission types. What types are available on the non 2 cylinder types? Which are the best, what are any inherent problems, etc? Also, what is the name of the John Deere magazine comparable to "Red Power Magazine"?

Green magazine is a cool magazine, i think.

Quad range did not come on the first new generation tractors. you only had synchro range and powershift. Side console does NOT indicate transmissions.. it just indicates that the hyrdraulic controls are situated in a nice console next to the seat.

Syncro-range has large gap between gears in each range, shift pattern looks very complicated until one uses it for a time and overall trans is very durable if kept full of clean oil. Powershift has simple clutchless shift pattern,close-spaced gears, almost indestructible with clean, full oil, excellent for loader work. Down side of PS is very expensive to OH when it wears out, robs about 5 HP,tractor can't be pull started and should never be towed unless put in tow position. I'm sure I forgot something. Tx Jim
