JD Z255 mower

This is a 2014 mower. It has run good and it still is. However, lately, it's running good and then all of sudden, it changes into a smooth accelerating run. When it changes it still mows. I do not know what to check for. After a while, it changes back to a normal acceleration. Any ideas into what to look for will help.

I am thinking your Deere Z255 has a Kawasaki engine on it. If you are saying the RPM goes up a noticeable amount, stays there for a while, then comes back down, I am thinking your governor in your engine has worn internal parts.
But first, check that the link between the governor arm and the carburetor is adjusted properly. (You should be able to find the linkage adjustment procedure online somewhere. It is probably also on a Youtube video.) Also, there should be a spring between the governor arm and the throttle shaft on the carburetor. Be sure it is there. Its purpose is to take all the slack out of the movement of the linkage.

Thanks for the feedback. The mower has a Briggs and Stratton engine. I will check it out.
