Got a chance to buy a JD 1010 Row-Crop tractor reasonably priced. Man said a "needle bearing in the transmission came apart" when his son tried to get a running start and jerk a big log around. Knowing no more than that about it, my question is, are parts readily available for the transmission of these tractors?

Run and run fast. The JD1010 and 2010 where 2 of the worst models JD ever built. Parts are hard to come by and if you do find them they cost an arm and leg. Plus they are not very friendly to work on. I have parts of one and the reason I only have part of it is because when I found out how much it would cost to fix I parted it out instead.

The rear end of the 1010 is basically a JD430. A lot of the parts will interchange between them as well as the 420.

I own two 1010’s and a 430. I would much rather drive and work on the 1010 any day of the week than my 430.

Parts are available, both new and used. I have never had an issue getting a part for my tractors. They are just as expensive to repair as any other 50 year old tractor.

If it is a diesel, then I agree... run
If it’s a gas there is nothing wrong with them.

I'll second what Hay Maker said. Parts (particularly for the tranny) are available. I had to replace the cluster gear in mine which required a complete tear down and it wasn't bad. If you don't mind me asking, what's the "reasonable price"?

-Old, always chuckle a bit at how quickly you tell people to run from those 1010's. Every time without a beat. I still remember when you told me "take the radiator cap off and put it on a different tractor" when I first asked about it. Happy to say mines all better now.

The one I have we paid $500 for an so far all we have done of broke even on it. But I do have from the bell housing back of this one so I would have the parts you need and would be a pretty easy set the good engine into this rear end

What version is it a row crop utility or tricycle front the row crop tricycle with 36" back tires is fairly low production/ rare / uncommon

GRAB IT!!!!!! Tricycle is rare for 1010. Don't know how many there are but 600 is the lowest i've ever seen one. A lot of them came w/ power steering and rear hydraulics and dual cylinder hydraulics. If it has any of those it is worth more.

Nonsense. Nothing wrong with the diesels other then lousy parts support and kind of crude to operate.

Don't know if this will help but there were 1492Row-Crop gases made and 273 diesel. There are several different Row-Crops listed.Singles,Utility and Special.Dont know anything about them so not much help.

Someone such as yourself has the knowledge , patience , skill and the tools to make a 1010/2010 diesel operate . The typical tractor owner farmer finds the 1010/2010 diesel a real challenge .
