My JD 2240 appears to be stuck partially in 4wd. Once before, it could not be placed in 2wd at all. The electrical coil solenoid had gone and it defaulted permanently to 4wd. Problem went away with new solenoid unit several years ago. However, again it seems not to go fully into 2 wd. Cleaned solenoid connection, noted that it moved when the switch to 4wd was activated.I blocked up the front and put screw jacks under the rear and started the tractor, all four wheels off the ground. in 2 wd, the front tires would rotate fairly briskly, but could be stopped with firm hand pressure. in 4 wd, it engaged fully and developed what seemed to be full power. What is going on here? Is this a sign that the clutch for the MFWD is failing, or is it a new problem with the electrical coil (PN AL33147)? Any thoughts about further diagnosis before having get into the clutch? Thanks in advance.
