JD2640 tach cable relacement

I am needing to replace my tach cable and tachometer on my 2640. First where is a good place to purchase both and get good quality. Second is the end of the tach cable not connected to the tach itself under the battery platform hard to trace and find that end. Thanks in advance for the help

I believe you will find the engine end of the tach cable is screwed into the clutch housing flange in line with the back end of the camshaft, which drives it.

YT/PartsASAP likely has the parts. I expect most anyone's cable will work ok. Quality of aftermarket replacement tachometers is a crapshoot. There some places that will rebuild yours. someone will be along with names.

Deere has a line of non Deere parts. I bought one, whole tach for 4020 and it was about 150 at the time and as I recall made in India. I have one went south in a 2640 too,,, never considered it was anything but the unit, maybe I should look. I was thinking I might should take it apart and see what went wrong?

On my 2440 I took the tach head apart and found a plastic gear had a couple teeth missing. Built them up with epoxy and filed in the teeth. Was still working when I sold it several thousand hours later.
