Hi everyone. I'm new here and new to tractors but not new to mechanics and welding. I bought this John Deere 300 industrial tractor/backhoe for a few projects. The backhoe is an E7300. Machine runs strong and it fires right up easily. Well maybe. Thought I would sell it after I'm done. But then again it's nice having one of these around. I know I have to get my hands on some manuals. My first problem is something was leaking every time the brakes are depressed. First I thought it was brake fluid. But I guess there is no such thing as brake fluid and the brake system runs on hydraulic oil? Anyway upon looking underneath, the brake valve, master cylinder, brake cylinder, or whatever it's called is cracked and is leaking. That valve isn't cheap (AR53493). I might braze it and see if that holds. The 3 pt doesn't raise but the guy said it did. When I bought it I checked everything but forgot to raise the 3 pt hitch. It appears to be low on hydraulic fluid. The radiator is caked with old crud. Just unbelievable how people don't maintain things. Almost no air flow through the radiator. I'll figure this out but any help is appreciated. The other thing I noticed in a lot of the John Deere model listings on the internet, the 300 model seems to be missing.

Thanks.

Serial number listings for industrial equipment, like your 300, are not commonly published for the public as Ag tractor lists are.

Contact one of the All States Ag Parts (YT's parent company) by phone and they may have a good used valve at one of their yards.

Thanks. I'll try them if my braze fails. I'm hoping this thing isn't a P.O.S. The bottom left attaching point for the three point hitch is also leaking. Hope it's just a seal and not a cracked case. The lights on the dash don't shut off even if the key is off. Hope it's just the key switch. :(

Jim.ME, since you are the green GURU here you mite have given the O.P. a ''heads up'' as to what ag models would have the same brake valve.

The 300 was mostly a 1020 with some more industrial parts I believe...

I don't think you need to worry about that 300 being a piece of junk. Mine has been in the family since before I was, and is rock solid and reliable. Obviously in the 50+ years we've had it, there's been maintenance, but nothing crazy. Injection pump a couple times, power steering system work, a few injectors, and the fuel tank has given us some grief from pin holes, but that's about it.

Nor did you (also a Guru) choose to give the O.P. a "heads up". I see Tx Jim has taken care of that for both of us "GURUs".

My thought was he has the part number, which is what I would use to search with, regardless of the models that use it. If one calls a salvage yard, is it best to use the part number, or a list of models? Either could work, I use the part number if I have it. Never had a yard ask me what other models used it, they had that covered.

As for "you are the green GURU here" part, I did not ask for a title and don't claim to be a green, or any other, GURU, that is YT's thing. I think GURU and Tractor Expert are misleading titles and should be eliminated. Those titles are apparently related to number of posts, not verifiable experience or knowledge on tractors. There are people who post here that have the title yet make almost no tractor posts and have limited experience with tractors. We post things we know, have experienced, or seen, which can differ from person to person. And at times things any one of us post may wrong or incomplete and others correct the error. Hopefully we all help each other and can gain a bit from different perspectives and responses.

OMG you have dismantle half the tractor to get the valve out because the one bolt is so long it wont come out. On a side note my propane torch has been my favorite tool on this project for rusted bolts and stuff.
