JD4240 quad transmission

Pulling a chisel plow today in B range. Started grinding and stopped instantly. I assume that rear end is going in for a rebuild. Yes the 4 post mounts were changed 4 years ago... question is, I can not get out of B range. Assumed that it is gulled together. Any issue if I pull it a Couple hundred yards to my shop? Obviously I can run the engine to keep the trans lubed and for the brakes.

Any pointers before I tear into this old girl?!
Brakes were done 4 years ago.

Thanks

You should be able to tow with no harm to trans if you put range selector in "tow position" which is located between C & D range.

Yes you can safely tow it with the engine running and the clutch depressed,, it will pull a bit stiff, rarely does any of the lower range gears act this way,, but, it does seem like you will be looking at a bottom shaft repair.

Can t get it out of B range to put it in the tow

Please advise "rarely does a lower gear act this way"

Can I pull the rear end out from under the 4 post or does that have to come off too?

Are you the Tim with a shop in Mich. that can rebuild old jd steering valves? If so I need to get a hold of you. Do you mind giving your shop name so I could look you up?

I was able to get it out of B Range and drive it to my shop.
I can cycle through the ranges, but B range is defiantly junk.

Can I use this tractor in A, C or D rang?
I don't have time to take it out of use and really need it to put crops in.
