JD620 rust in tank

I have a JD620 that i have been having problems with for some time.I noticed a few years ago i had some rust in the tank .I took the tank off and took it to a shop that cleaned the tank and added some type of product that coats the tank and supposibly prevents the tank from rusting again.Well i was running the tractor the other day and she quite on me .The settling bowl had rust. Idrained thetank of remaining gas which did not look bad.But when i looked into tank with a flash light,i noticed a lot of rust again.I have heard of having a tank glass lined, does anyone know about this procedure.What are my options with this tank,and what is the best way to store tractor over winter, drain all gas ,or add some kind of gas conditioner!Thanks for any advise you can give me.

# 1 i would start using a different SHOP. If they used a quality lining product you should not have had a problem in that period of time.At this point i would suggest aquireing another used tank, they are avail and i am sure you could get a CLEAN orig. As for winter storage, the best proven way is a full tank not ethanol, but maybe Diesel or KERO and siphon out come spring.

I haven't heard of glass lining but that doesn't mean anything.
Sounds like whoever did your tank didn't do it right.
It was suggested to fill your tank before parking it to eliminate air exchange and condensation. However parking it for the winter leaves you with stale gas in the spring.
I would completely drain it if storing for the winter.

This might be a quick fix, surely not a correct fix, but I once had this trouble on a 620. I took sediment bowl assembly off and put a copper extension on the fixture that screws into the bottom of the tank, that way you are not getting all the crud off the bottom. Worked for me, until I got tank cleaned out.
