JD7810 Not Moving

Hello all, I acquired a 7810 and it quit moving on me. 16 speed power quad. The transmission pressure light came on with the stop light. I stopped and now it won’t move. Brought it home on a trailer and drained the oil. Found some chrome looking flakes in plug, but not a lot in the oil. Oil did appear dark and shimmery. I haven’t pulled sump screen but I’m thinking reman transmission may be in the works. I pulled one of the test port plugs at back of tractor when it quit to see if I had an adapter, but we cranked tractor accidentally with it out and had no oil there. Steering and brakes were still working. Thanks for any advice!

About the only thing you can do until you get gauges on it is check the engine to trans drive shaft and see if the splines are stripped in the yoke.

An oil sample should indicate if the incorrect oil was added .
I seriously doubt the wrong oil will make it suddenly stop moving. Unless it came on more gradually than he seems to indicate. He would have probably gotten at least one go-round of the suction screen plugged with clutch and brake lining if the wrong oil was used. Maybe that is what he’ll find.

Gauges showed nothing on system and lube. Would my steering, brakes, and scv’s be working if splines were stripped. Trying to decide what manual I need.

Screen was clean. Could have been cleaned before it was carried to sale.

Do you have the gauges hooked up to the ports on the bottom of the trans. If you do have you tried every powersift gear, mfwd, diff lock to see if you get any pressure. If you still have nothing pull the pressure control valve if every thing there is good its time to open it up. As for the drive shaft just look at it. Manuals you need diagnostic and test and the repair.

Got manuals coming. I did have gauges hooked at system and lube ports on bottom of tranny. Tried diff lock, but didn’t do any gear shifting. Didn’t have anything so stopped until I could get more info. I haven’t verified but thinking steering, brakes, and scv ok means splines not stripped. First I’ve seen about pressure control valve. A possibility? Thanks for the info!

I'm willing to bet the trans oil pump shelled out or broke. Don't remember for sure but I think you can take the front housing off that contains the oil pump without pulling the trans.

Early and late pump assemblies
