JI Case 300?

Found a little tractor that says 300 on the side but it is gas. A wide front hasnt ran in 7 years but its sitting inside. What are come things to look at and check out? Might pick it up to get running and use to pull a hay rake. Not familiar with these tractors thank you for any help?

dont think there is diesels in the 300. do your regular sequence as with any tractor or engine sitting for years. fuel, oil, coolant , and electrical. not going into detail writing a page as dont know what u know. its an engine and they all require the same maintenance.

The 300, 301 and 302 were diesel. The 310, 311 and 312 were gas. Even though the numbers on the hood says 300, the serial number tag will show which variation it is

Most likly your looking at a gas which is a g148 engine. Good strong engine which delivers medium fuel economy. The tractor has a four speed transmission with a triple range shifter on the right side giving it 12 gears/speeds forward and 3 reverses. It has a hand clutch in addition to the foot clutch on the left side. The hand clutch allows the PTO to be live. They are usually equipped with remote hydraulics and it will work well with a hydraulic wing rake. It also should have the Eagle hitch 3 point which works like a quick hitch. Overall, a well equipped good little tractor.

I don't know much about them but age I think makes a difference between one with a square shaped grill and a round shape, Also some 200 row crop had about a 28 inch rear wheel and some had about a 38 inch rear wheel. Think depended on age of tractor.

Tractors with 300 on the sheet metal can be the 300 series round nose built in 1956 & 1957. Some examples of the different round nose models.
