I am looking for some info on these little tractors. I puschased one for my girl to show at tractor shows. Runs great original engine with plow great shape. Are they collectable and what are the correct colors for repainting? thanks...

How collectable it is depends on what year it is. Post the serial number and I can ID it for you. For the most part, the tractor should be orange. All of it with a few exceptions. Since it is a Jim Dandy, the 8" front wheels should be orange, the rear wheels should be all black but the hubs. The steering tube would either be orange or black depending on the year. Engine should be orange depending on the year. Once I know the year (depending on what it is), I may be able to supply you with a picture of a new one so there is no doubt. You"ll find the serial number in various places. If it is an older JD, it will be on a tag that is mounted to the bell housing. If it has electric start, it may be hidden under the starter generator. A newer model will have the number both on the front grill and the dash. If you can"t find it at all, send me a picture or two or a good accurate description and I can at least get it close.

jeff, would you send me a picture of one of the jim dandy tractors w/electric start.the one i bought has independent l/r brake handles,8"fronts,no info on serial plate it is in shipment to our home now. thanks so much..

Sure, give me a day or so as all the pics I have are on disk now. You say brake handles? So the brakes on this one are operated by hand? If that's the case, yours may not have electric start unless the previous owner added it. Is the very front of the hood rounded? I'm looking to see if this has the rounded hood that is one peice with the front grill where you have to get the tools out to get the hood off.

Here are some photos and attachments of a 1972 jim Dandy electric start 14 hp.

If the link doesn"t work, copy and paste this.
