John Deere 1010 Rowcrop Narrow front

I recently found a John Deere 1010 Rowcrop??? narrow front tractor with a frontend loader for sale. Gas engine with recent overhaul. 3-point hitch. 36 inch rear tires.power steering. Not sure if loader is JD or not. It"s just a trip bucket loader. The guy says he has over $1700.00 in parts on overhaul(which I don"t doubt). The tractor seems to run excellent and overall mechanically seems sound. But it is kind of ugly. Missing the front grill , all of the side panels and the dash is empty. No gauges left in the dash at all. Anyways , just wondered if any of you guys had an opinion to the value of it and if it would be worth restoring as a collectible tractor. Or is it even a very collectible piece?? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

the side panels seem to be very expensive to buy.

the gauges in the dash are no big deal to replace.

i am restoring a 1964 1010 special RUS right now. it has been in my family for 43 years..

for me i like the 1010..

I have a 63 1010 gas. It seems that the big issue is the motor. If it needs an overhaul, it's expensive. So, if the one you are looking at has been rebuilt, that's a good thing. I agree. The side panels are not easy to find. Mine are missing, but the rest of the sheet metal is there. For your information, mine looks pretty good, runds pretty good, and had a hydraulic Freeman loader. I paid $2,400 and a lot of folks thought that was too much. I like the 1010 for its size, but I did not buy it for a main, working tractor. One more thing. If you're on hilly ground, you will find the brakes to be inadequate.

vermont john
can you give me more info on your loader. at some point i want to get one for my 1010.

Why do do you say the 1010 has inadequate brakes? I have owned a 1010 for the last 25 years and for a number of those it was my main hay tractor. I have never had any trouble with the brakes on hills or flat ground even pulling a New Holland 1030 bale wagon fully loaded. Have always been told that the 1010 is one Deeres" worst tractors and the brakes are terrible. Have never figured out why and always thought that to be a bunch of crap. Maybe I just got a melon in that mine has no problems...

CarlL,

The loader is an old Freeman with a single bucket cylinder. It mounts pretty cleanly to the 1010 - mounting to the frame rails under the motor on each side, and clamping to the back axle housing. If you send me an email, I can send you some pictures.
