John Deere 1950 B

My son wants me to ask for a description or diagram of exactly where engine oil goes into his tractoe. Sounds like a simple thing, but he is serious for an answer. Thanks any reply, John

Above and ahead of the clutch pulley, there is a 1 1/2 - 2" pipe cap. Take that off and pour the oil in. Add oil until it starts to run out the oil check on the other side. Use a 3/4" wrench to loosen it 2-3 turns. It should be located about 1/2 way up the side a little in front of the flywheel cover. Help me out here guys, I THINK it takes about 10 quarts. Is that right??? Also, on a "50 B, there's a fill for about a quart in the top of the first reduction gear cover, which is the big cast piece that the clutch lever sits on. Take the pipe plug out(square head) and pour a quart there first.

This is an A but the B will be similar. The cap is the fill and the smaller plug is for one pint of engine oil. The level plug is on the right side below and forward of the pulley.

The crankcase oil capacity of your B is 7 quarts.

THANKS GUYS!! Especially the photo showing the locations, etc. That is what he thought, but was not sure what the small plug behind the large filler cap was for. NOW he knows. Really like the info. all you guys and gals on here gives the inexperienced younger guys. My son is 50, so he is still not near as old as most of US more Mature guys that use this GREAT forum. He sure does like his 50 JD B, even though it is not my favorite Brand, (I have a 1951 MM UTU), he enjoys driving it whenever he gets the chance. Actually he is planning to use it this Thursday to pull a 2 axle trailer for hay rides at our church's TRUNK or TREAT festival they put on each year instead of Halloween. Thanks again, John in AZ
