John Deere 2010

I bought a 2010 dirt cheap. The problem is the three point moves, the pto works, and tractor moves and runs. But the power steering doesn’t work. I have drained all oil and bought a hydraulic filter and spring wich it didn’t have one in it. Question is why doesn’t the power steering work if everything else works?

The power steering is fed from a flow divider in the main hydraulic pump. The first thing to do would be to verify pressure an flow in the line from the pump to the steering valve.

If you drop down to the DEERE Forum and search past threads there's one from a month or two back where someone was having the same problem and the pressure and flow numbers were discussed.

His was a simpler system as there was no 3-point or remote valve(s).

I have not been back to the thread for a while and I don't know if he ever solved the problem.

Does the lift work with a load on it? The pto is a driven shaft off the clutch pressure plate with dry clutches and a shift collar on shaft to engage the pto. Hydraulics not used on pto. Is it a row crop or utility. Mine is a row crop diesel with roll-o-matic front axle. the reason I quit using mine years ago is that the hydraulic pump is worn out and steering and three point lift would quit working. they have a power steering gear on bottom of steering column with a steering motor on the front of the tractor. With a drag link connecting steering gear to steering motor. If you have a cylinder connected to the remotes, does it work. I'll have to look in my manual for trouble shooting the steering, most 2010s as I learned after I got mine years ago have problems with the hydraulic pump.

Why not just get to the bottom of it and check power steering flow and pressure?

Are you sure it has power steering? My understanding was that it was optional from the dealer. I have a 2010 and it either has the same problem or doesn’t have the PS option.
