John Deere 2010C

I"m back to working on my little 2010 Diesel loader crawler, he needs something done about the engine. Will the engine from a 2020 farm tractor bolt right in? I priced out some of the parts to overhaul the original engine, but with the cylinder deck alone at $1000 from Deere, I"m looking at going a different route. I"m also playing with the thought of just putting bearings in, rebuilding the head, injectors, and injection pump, and throwing a set of rings in. Is there an outfit I can get parts for the old girl? I wonder if there"s somebody who makes a liner kit for it that does away with the cylinder deck?

Very nice, straight, 2010 you have there. I"m almost positive 2020 engine will not bolt in. I"ve heard there is a combine engine that does. Search the message board at jdcrawlers.com. There are some posts there about the combine engine.

if you use a farm tractor engine, a few bolt-on parts are different, that is water pump, alternator, etc. You will have to use the old engines parts or equivalent.

I used to buy J D engine parts from this company. http://www.apmengineparts.com/johndeere.html Parts were about half price and seemed to geive as good service as J D parts. Also check Clevite web site.

2010 uses the older two-cylinder engine bolt pattern, not the newer 300 series like the 2020 and 2510 has.

Here's some info on finding a suitable combine or power-unit engine. 145, 155, or a 165.

H” is “Harvester Works, “T” is “Dubuque”,
“G” is “gasoline” and “L” is “LP gas.”
Some 45 Combines have Hercules JX-4C-3
180 Power Unit (PC1022) is not a 1010/2010 type engine

Deere 45 combine engines:
145 Power Unit ({PC537)
165 Power Unit (PC667)
155 Power Unit (PC624)
165 Power Unit (PC667)

HA-155D sleeveless engine used in 45 combine
HB-145L
HB-145G
TA-145G
TA-145L
HA-165D - diesel used in 45 combine - ser # 45-2996 - 45-46000)
HA-165G - gas used in 45 combine - ser # 45-35001 - 45-46000
HB-165D - diesel used in 40 combine
HB-165G - gas used in 111 peanut combine

The little guy is in a LOT better shape now than when I first bought it, it came from a rock quarry. I"ve done a lot of work on it to get it to where it is now and I"ve done quite a bit of work with him too, but the engine knocks a little and runs on the low side for oil pressure, so its time to do what I"ve been putting off for the last 5 years. I only put maybe 50 or 60 hours a year on the machine, but it only takes 1 minute to throw a rod.

Hello Sam,
your right that liner plate is costly. I would have to check next week but i am showing standard and .020 piston rings, not sure if the rings are .020 over for standard pistons. I should have all the other parts you need for that engine.
Thanks Ed

I checked into those .020 rings. back in the 70's there was a company selling .020 pistons for that engine. they are no longer available. but you could find that someone has bored out your liner plate and installed the .020 pistons.
Thanks Ed
