What's the purpose of the hyd control valve by right frt tire? Tractor looks ok except for missing radiator screen. Does it have open or closed center power steering? Open center power steering utilizes hyd pump mounted to RH frt of engine & I think I see an open-center PS line in photo.

In my never to be humble opinion, the 1020 and 2020 were the toughest utility tractors ever built.

Depends on what you are expecting from the tractor . It is at least 50 years old. https://www.tractordata.com/farm-tractors/000/0/6/66-john-deere-2020.html

It had a front end loader some time before and the control valve comes with to hook up a rear remote not sure about how that works

If you don't have a lot of mechanical aptitude (like me), it can be miserably annoying until you get all the bugs worked out. Mine is a 1967 model, and is now a good little tractor (55 horse).
If you buy, get an Owners Manual, a Repair Manual, and a Parts Manual.

Not supposed to connect a loader , log splitter , hydraulic motor or other high flow loads to the SCV .
Although there is a kit to make the SCV return to a ported filter cover instead of directly into the transmission case .

Yes, just went yesterday to rob some parts on a 2130 that had 30000 hours. The pedals were so worn that there was no grooves at all.

As for toughness, Ford 5000 and Fiat 670 would also be very good, none of them having the nice power steering of those utilities.

The pic of the throttle lever makes me think that is a very early 2020. The early tractors had a different power steering setup with a separate hyd pump on the front of the engine. They are very expensive to work on and not the best set up. You can easily confirm this but checking to see if there are two lines coming out of the steering colum on the dash. If it ever gives problems replace it with the later style and remove the front pump. Tom

Remove the factory power steering pump . Do not remove the front hydraulic pump .

Uncles 2020 gas still earns it keep.
Mowing or bailing or loader work.

The hydraulic wood splitter on the rear
cost thousands in repairs to the tractor
twice before a separate tank was put on
the splitter and now the splitter runs off
a pump slid onto the pto shaft, nice and
self contained.

Only other problem I heard of was the
brakes were very unreliable for years
until someone noticed enough dirt and rust
on pedal shafts was keeping the pedals
from returning to home position.

How are the loader hydraulics connected to the tractor ? How was the log splitter hydraulics connected to the tractor ?
