John Deere 2630

Talked to a guy today who has a 2630 John Deere for sale. Runs good, good sheet metal, average tires, but needs a clutch and a hydraulic pump. Didn't look at the tractor today, but have used it in the past.

Does the tractor have to be split to replace the hydraulic pump??

How much is this tractor worth the way it sits??

You will have to split it to replace the clutch. Most Deere,s of that vintage have the main pump in front of the engine, under the rad. That model was not sold in Canada, but variants here are similar. Parts to repair those will likely be more than 2 thousand. Ben

Main hydraulic pump is in front of the engine, but also they have a reputation for transmission oil pump/internal oil tube/O-ring issues.

Hopefully others that have dealt with them more than me can give you further info.

Before replacing any hyd pump "good diagnostics" should be performed. A massive internal hyd leak can make a "good hyd pump" appear BAD. I've read on internet of several JD hyd pumps
having been replaced to find out it wasn't the pump. Check frt hyd pump drive coupler to be sure pump shaft is turning when engine crankshaft is turning.

I suggested to him the pump was in front of the motor, but he said it was internal. I told him I didn't think a John Deere tractor that old had an internal hydraulic pump.

For once I was right. Lol.

Price has to be low, low low. The six cylinder Dubuque and Mannheims had the usual hydraulic problems if they were ran to failure before servicing the hydraulics.
In addition they would wipe out the transmission top shaft if towed.
Use a coolant test strip to verify if there is any corrosion inhibitor left in the system. If not, count on a set of sleeves.

JD tractors with closed center hyd systems have an internal trans pump that supplies oil to frt hyd pump plus performs functions such supplying oil to hyd ind pto,hyd hi-lo's & hyd reversers plus lubricating trans shafts/gears

Some JD Dubuque/Mannheim tractors had hyd problems with excellent service records even still under warranty!!

I've never heard in sales or service meetings that I attended that towing a JD utility tractor will do harm to top trans shaft nor have I witnessed that to happen.

Would a 2630 have a closed center hydraulic
system?? I guess what I am asking does it have
an internal pump to supply oil to the front hydraulic
pump, the hi-lo reverser, etc.

Thanks!!!

A 2630 has the same problematic Hydraulic system as a 2020,2030,2840,2950 ect. or any other 2 stick Dubuque tractor other than a 820/830 which has a open center system, they are built on the same platform, just a bigger engine and final drive on the whole. And as I have said when they are good the are great,, but when they are bad they are very bad...If you are looking at one with "Possible" hydraulic issues I would say "walk On"....

Yes the 263 has a CC hyd system with an internal trans pump that supplies oil to lubricate trans shafts/gears,supply operating oil too hyd hi-lo or hyd reverser, hyd ind pto & supply oil to frt hyd pump.

You are correct. It was an update on the bearings for the pinion shaft and a few other components. Midway through 3130/2630 manufacture.
some of the "new warranty" hydraulic problems were due to high flow hydraulic loads without a ported filter cover.
