John Deere 290 Planter Bean Plates?

I was curious if there were plates made for the John Deere 290 planter to plant GREEN BEANS.
I've read in the old manual that it can be used for many different crops including soybeans. But I was wondering if it was possible that there was a plate made to plant garden green beans using the two row planter.

Any info would be greatly appreciated, as I have looked everywhere and haven't found much useful information.

Thanks!

Find a coippy of the plabnter book and you will find your information there. Over a hundred plates listed that are not in owners manual. I have that book someplace but where as not used it for years.

The above link MAY be the manual Leroy mentioned. For sure it will take a lot of searching to possibly find the info you are looking for.

290 planter parts catalog.

If for a garden just use a regular white bean plate. I would think a soybean plate or even maybe a large round corn plate would work. I'd try any of those in the driveway or shed floor to see how they planted and if it broke the seed at all. I don't believe it would. Big thing is if they hung in the slot in the plate. planting rate would be set by the sprockets and chain driving the rows.

I have an H2480B edible bean plate for my 71 planter and would it would work in your 290 as well. No special filler plates or hopper bottom is required - it goes in just like a regular corn plate. It works well and I've planted green beans in the garden many times with it.

No, unfortunately not. I got mine years ago at a used equipment yard in an area where a lot of truck farming used to be done but a quick internet search doesn't show anything out there. Keep an eye on eBay - you can occasionally find oddball planter plates there. One option might be to get a blank plate from Lincoln Ag Products and carve your own cells to match your seed.

Not sure. The book I have has plates up to 60 cell in it. After moving a few times in last 4 years I have no idea where in storage unit all that stuff is.

That book I mentioned would give you the dimmensions to do that, they are listed in 64 of an inch.

All Deere plates fit all Deere planters from the 7000 searies clear back to the horse drawn planters.
