john deere 2950 hi lo

we have a2950 4x4 cab tractor that we have had to split to fix hi lo. weve split twice so far and it needs it again. iwas wondering if there is a way to block the hydraulic ports to the hi lo and then fix the planetary gears so theyre in hi all the time.we have alot of road time from field to field.

You didn't specify hours, but if the hi/lo has gone out 3 times you have other problems, like low pressure,an internal hydraulic leak, worn sealing ring surfaces,or it is not being repaired properly. No reason it shouldn't last in excess of 5-6000 hours even with an idiot operator.

hour meter doesnt work last time we changed the hi lo it was a bad seal on the big piston. clutches and steels were still good . we replaced all clutches and seals. checked for bad spots that would damage seals. checked to make sure pressure above 150 psi at manifold. last time we changed it was two years ago. when had it out took it to friend at dealer to look at plus borrowed tools to compress it. tractor has many drivers. last year split it again because throughout bearing locked up. tractor used for round baling, spraying light tillage, and hauling manure.

we never pull started it, but we boughtit locally from a dairy that was pretty hard on it. they had trans trouble electric and ac problems and finally gave up on it and left it sitting. i thought we were getting a good deal on it but weve had to work on it alot.

When a dairey farm gets done with one of those they should shove into the manure pit and let it sink out of sight,,there are a couple of them just like yours around here,,used clear up to nothing..

i was warned by friends not to buy tractor, but did anyway. we put a couple grand and fixed lights ac charging and hi lo. it ran good for the first couple years and i thought we made out pretty good. after that started having one problem after another. im not ready to push in the manure pit yet.i guess well fix it one more time and probably put it in auction
