John Deere 3010 gas

Hello all,
I recently purchased a 3010 gas from my dad. The last time he ran it he said it died and then it acted like it wasn’t getting spark. Since then it has sat for about a year and the motor got stuck. I have the motor freed up now and I am getting ready to tackle the ignition issue, just waiting on parts.
The tractor has been converted to electronic ignition but he said it has always been hard to start since he’s had it. I’ve ordered a new electronic ignition for the distributor to replace the old one, along with new plugs. The wires are carbon core and appear to be fairly new.
The questions I have are what coils have y’all had good luck with and if I should get a new ignition switch as the one in the tractor now has a built in resistor and if so does anyone have a good wiring diagram/ simple wiring diagram of wiring up the switch. The tractor is a positive ground tractor.

Get the coil recommended by the manufacturer of the EI unit for use with that unit.

If the EI manufacturer did not allow for the resistor on the JD switch and wants a full voltage to the coil you will need to replace the switch with one that does not have a resistor or bypass the resistor.

It might help if you tell the brand and part number of the EI kit/unit you purchased, so people can see any info available or someone might be using the same unit and have some info on their results with it.

Is the switch not wired now?
