John Deere 3020 wiring

Hello all first time posting here but long time lurker. I have a 3020 gas that was left for dead and given to me a few years ago. I have completely rebuilt it engine, clutch, head, had everything completely stripped down. I'm now at the wiring stage. It was originally positive ground but I put an alternator on it. I'm curious if anyone has a wiring diagram i can reference thats better then the one in the service manual. The existing wiring harness is in ruff shape so I'm considering rewiring the whole thing from scratch. At this point i can only crank it by jumping the starter. Lasty I'm curious what anyone thinks it might be worth. when its done and painted. I should mention its a narrow front. Thanks

I agree on value , less than you have into it.
When rebuilding anything it must almost always be for your own use to get any value out of it. I know of one person who had a jd 4055 I think was the number. 15 thousand hours. He had it rebuilt front to back for 50 thousand. A new tractor was 2x that so for him it was worth that because he liked it and needed to upgrade. Was cheaper to rebuild. He had plans on farming another 10-15 years with it.

6500 is what I got out of a 2510 which is slightly smaller but around the same age all cleaned up and repainted. It was a similar situation not quite given but for 500 bucks.

3010 diesel same situation a little older 9500 about 5 years ago.

7000 or so list it for 8 if it’s pretty would be my guess. Narrow front and gas make it take a hit. 20 series If it has diff lock that’s a nice feature and if it was a late one you might get a bit more but the gas and narrow front will keep you down a bit. Wonderful tractor to have and inexpensive to fix for yourself 4 cylinder will start good even with one battery but it’s not a 20000 dollar side console wide front 4020 diesel.

Thanks for the replies, im in about 4000 in parts did all the work myself including forging a new section of rim where calcium rotted it out. Its kinda been a rainy day project to keep busy. Maybe ill rake with it for a year then part ways. only 4000 hours if its accurate

Be aware that if you want the fuel gauge to read accurately you'll have to swap it out for a (-) ground unit.

I would suggest getting the JD repair manual is has all the wiring diagrams. Just some hints, all JD 3020s that left the factory with an alternator are negative ground. All others left the factory as positive ground, any that were converted to alternators usually have a negative ground. You need the fuel gauge from a later model to work with a negative ground system. The older gas models gas models apparently used the same wiring harness as the 24-volt diesel models so you will find remnants of the A and B system, which can be confusing.

Tires, tin, and whether its a later model side console or not are all huge factors, and you did not mention them. If tin and tires are 'average" , $5500 to $6000 is about what you will get. Still more than the $4000 you have in it!!
