John Deere 336

I am looking at a John Deere 336 Baler that was bought new in 1981 by the original owner who is selling. Baler appears to be in good shape by the photos and has always be stored inside. Bale counter says 60 000 but he figured it had about 130 000 bales through it.

Does this seem high for a square baler?

Probably needs some attention but that number is possible. Grandfather bought a 336 new in 1973 and conservatively has baled 400000+. If it's been stored inside
that's a plus.

Bobby, I skimmed your post quickly and got to the end and assumed you were asking if the price was high, then realized you are asking about the bale count. No, 130K is
not high at all for the 336. After 24 hourts or so this thread will have all kinds of posts from others saying they put several hundered thousand bales thru their 336's
etc etc. Editorial comment- One owner 336's with only 130K bales thru them that appear to be maintained.....if all true, these are pretty rare, and the owner is asking a
'fair' price for the baler, you should act fast as it should have a lot of life left in it.

If kept clean and well maintained 130,000 bales through it would be nothing to worry about. Give it a good looking over for welds other than factory, cracks, etc..
Don't know what he is asking but the price has really fallen off in the last couple of years as there are fewer and fewer small dairies around. A consignment sale earlier
in the year had several 336's with will run but ain't pretty at 700 dollars and pretty good and original with ejector near to 2,000 dollars. Compare that to a few years
ago where I hit a bunch of auctions that had 336's with the cheapest going for 2,300 and operating condition unknown. Good to very good with ejector over 4,000
dollars. Same idea with pull type forage harvesters and self unloading wagons.

We do about 3500 bales per year and the main use baler averages close to 2500 per year and that is
light duty. Replacing the parts that wear like the plungerhead rollers, pitman bushing, chains, etc, would
be normal maintenance. My main baler has rusty slides under the plunger and that is probably it’s
biggest problem. If the machine is sound in general, it will last a very long time. These guys have.
