John Deere 39 H

Say where do you guys get your gaskets from. I would like to get one on here but don't see it. What I new is the cork flywheel seal. My boy said that last time he did one for a guy is that he had to get it from John Deere. Thanks.

Those cork seals are VERY easy to break when installing them due to all the distortion necessary to work them into the groove in the H229R spacer. Soaking them in oil for a day or two helps a little, but sometimes they will still crack. So I went a different route. An industry standard #329 o-ring seems to fit pretty well as far as the diameters of the crankshaft and the groove in the spacer. The groove width is larger than the o-ring will fill, but the o-ring can be pushed toward the outer wall of the spacer groove, and that's the direction oil pressure will push it anyway. Best part is the o-ring costs less than one dollar, and it doesn't shrink or eventually harden that will permit oil seepage.

Just had a thought. Same type of cork ring goes in the top of the steering shaft. Maybe an O-ring there too. BTW, anybody have an extra cylinder head nut to spare? Something about one of the nuts never looked right to me. Finally figured out it's a 5/8 and not a 9/19 heavy hex.

You mean that little H199R Cork packing ring that fits into the counterbore in the front pedestal and that is supposed to seal around the eccentric bushing to keep grease/oil from running into the pedestal cavity? Yes, there's one for that, too. Industry #222, 1/8 thick, 1-3/4 OD x 1-1/2 ID. Works very well, and since there's always a little wear/clearance between the eccentric bushing and the pedestal, the cork ring never seals very well because it isn't pliable enough and will harden after while. The o-ring squishes and expands back nicely as the eccentric bushing moves around slightly while you are traveling.
