Trying to remove pin through pulley and shaft. Have heated and still can’t get pin to move any. Should I drill it out?

Pic didn’t download load first try

They usually come out with a properly sized, solid punch and several swings of a heavy hammer.

The center of the pin (roll pin) is usually hollow so you could in theory use a small drill bit/punch to clean out any built up corrosion? At least the ones on my 420 and 430 tractors were. Cannot remember is a 40 had a solid pin.

I've had some be stubborn, but cannot recall not being able to remove one of those pins before.

Your picture looks like both the pin and the pulley have taken some hits. Is it possible the pin on that end has become irregular enough to not want to pass thru the pulley/crankshaft holes?

The pin on our 40U was solid and IIRC, tapered.

Can't tell if you've been striking the pin from both sides? If not, you could try from the opposite side of the picture you posted. Additionally you could try to "eyeball measure" with a caliper to find which end is the smaller to make sure you're hitting from the correct end.

When I did mine, the motor was still mounted to the rearend, and I cut a 2x4 with a hole bored in the end (to catch the pin) and then lowered the motor down so the side of the side of the pulley (and some weight) rested on the 2x4 and then used a punch and hammer. The board gives you something sold so the energy goes into the pin. I don't recall mine being that difficult to remove.

Its is not tapered, but it does have some groves cut in the side to make it an expansion fit (solid pin on the 40). I think you can still get a new one from Deere if you damage it too much.
