John deere 4020 LP PTO handle not functioning

Hello

I have a question regarding the pto handle on a 4020.

The PTO when you start the tractor is constantly turning. Even if you put the handle in the off position, it still turns. The cylinder the handle is attached to doesn't look in bad condition. My guess to resolve the issue would be to split the tractor, figure out what's not connected and maybe replace the PTO cylinder in the console.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

It would be interesting to see a photo of what you are calling "the cylinder the handle is attached to", can you post a photo?

The ''cylinder'' is the PTO valve, (no longer available, AFAIK), and they are quirky and can have fatal internal leaks, that would be the first thing to rule out. Beyond that, the PTO clutch plate COULD be warped or damaged and/or the PTO brake COULD have issues, which requires a ''split" between the clutch housing and the transmission. NOT FUN!
I would suggest posting lower down on the page in the John Deere-specific Forum, Deere GURU ''Tim S", a regular there, is likely the most knowledgeable person on these tractors that you will find, hopefully he will see your post and respond.

Yeah I kinda figured I was gonna have to split the tractor thank you for your Information I appreciate it. I will make another post on the specific page, and see what people say thank you again.

Spring #22 is for ser #250,xxx and above. It appears you should still have 2 springs installed.
