The original subject was "John Deere 4020 on 20.8 X 38s".

I went from dual 15.5.38 with 13.6.38 outer tires to 480/80/38 single radials which are .5 inch wider than
18.4.38 and the difference in traction is amazing I could not believe it I can pull more with the singles
with 2 sets of 145 pound weights per wheel than I could before with fluid in the inner and outer duals .

I can believe it. Radials are great. Plus getting the fluid out of the tires is a bonus too. I have a tractor with four 20.8x42 with 1000# of beet juice in each tire. I would much prefer 4000# of wheel weights.

We're currently running 2 weights per wheel & a full load of ballast in our 18.4 - 38 Titans.

I imagine the performance of a deeper, full lug tire like a 23 deg. Firestone radial ran at lower pressures would be night & day compared to the old bias plys.

Losing the ballast would be nice but we pull a heavy land roller over some relatively steep rolling hills and there's already a tendency for the tail to wag the dog so I think the calcium needs to stay for now......

BTW, what is the set up you have behind your 4020? Width? Shovels or chisels on the cultivator? Hoe or press drill?

John Deere 100 tool carrier with 14 inch wheatland sweeps the drill is two lz1010 hoe drills 16 feet wide
