John Deere 420 engine blocks

Hi so a qusetion on 420 blocks.... We have a 1958 420u witha block that is a t3037t But we just got a 420 crawler that has a bad block and the number is t10474t Will a 3037t fit right up? Is there a big difference?

Yes I am aware of that but I have heard alot of conflicting questions and answers if they are interchangeable or not.

Dip stick might be different or on the other side is about all.

Iirc there was something about the oil fill location too ?

They could be filled through the cap on the rocker cover. I believe the same cover was used on the later ones having the fill opening and bayonet gauge on the right side as the ones having the bayonet gauge on the left side of the block. At least it was on my 430.
