John Deere 420w 1957

Hello, I took the points and condenser out of the Distributor but can't remember if the wire from the condenser goes clockwise to the back of the tractor or does it go counter clockwise toward the front of the tradtor.? Thank you for any and all help you can give me.

Counterclockwise if you look at it from the mounted condenser to the terminal. Clockwise it you start at the terminal and go to the condenser.

Normally the lead from the condenser passes the pivot post of the points following the points spring strap to the terminal where it hooks with the spring strap.

It will work either way around the distributor, as long as the lead reaches and isn't contacting anything that could wear through it.

In some cases, if the condenser being installed has a longer or shorter lead than the original did mounting tbe condenser the opposite way and using an alternate routing of the lead will be helpful in keeping it out of harm's way, such as contacting moving parts or getting pinched.
