john deere 435

I was wondering if the 435 was a model worth keeping. I have just had a 1959 given to me. It runs good, drives good, but could use some cosmetics. Any thoughts?

It"s a relatively rare tractor with a 2-53 Detroit Diesel engine that was put into service before JD developed their new line of diesels, as I understand it. I had one(serial # 435006 as I recall, the sixth one off the line) and it was a good utility tractor, easy on fuel and with plenty of power. It was a hard starter in cold weather but otherwise was a good machine. I"d still have mine if circustances were different. I think they"re a good tractor to have on small acreage and you wouldn"t go wrong keeping it. It might command a premium because of it"s rarity as Ibelieve that fewer than 3000 were made in the 1959 and 1960 model years.

Lucky you. In similar condition a 435 & a 320 run about the same price.
Check over at the JD area with a search on 435's. There is a list of DD updates over the past few years.
Replacing the trans & final drive lube with Amsoil GL-4 Marine would be a good idea.
Mother Deere stocks an updated oval muffler that makes the engine less deafening.
