john deere 440 crawler

hi i am new to this site. I have a 440 crawler the motor needs repairs but there is a small crack in the block. it isn't leaking any antifreeze into oil so i think the head gasket is stopping it. i have been looking for parts the crank needs to be redone and rod etc. i have a a m64-t complete motor i know they are different and i could monkey it in there, but rather not. so my questions is i read that the crank from the m64-t along with rods could be used on the 440. i know they are a different bore size but i was wondering is the mains are the same size and if the stroke is the same? any help would be great.

if i can use the crank from the m in the 440 it wouldn't change the power in anyway still 4.25 inch pistons same carb. i read john deere only made 2 different cranks in these motors and the rod journals are different all else is the same like to confirm this would save me 800 bucks on rebuild

I would go down to the John Deere forum or a crawler forum. There is quite a few differences between M/40 and 420/440 engines.

Might be underpowered but they can still do a lot of work. We had one, that's where I got my start as a dozer operator. Having the direction reverser was a great improvement over the MC. In the 60's dad upgraded to a 350, and kept it till he passed away.
