I have one more question can you run a electric fuel pump into a mechanical fuel pump? The electric fuel pump is mounted at the bottom of the gas tank or will it pump to much gas to the carburetor? Thanks for any advice

Fuel pumps can be purchased that are for low pressure applications. Some are even adjustable within that range. A fuel pump that supplies 2 to 4 psi can push fuel through a (Good) mechanical pump. The flow and operation of the mechanical pump will not change the total output pressure if the electric pump has at or near the same pressure. I use an electric low pressure pump on my jeep to prime the mechanical pump after a few weeks of not running it. Jim

I did it on a JD 105 combine,

I just cut the electric fuel pump into the line below the gas tank and let it push gas through the mechanical pump.

Why not just eliminate the mechanical pump and blank of the hole and use the electric. If the diaphragm would fail on the mechanical the electric would fill the crankcase with fuel, not good.

if you run both the manual and electric, i would run a fuel pressure regulator to limit the pressure. too much pressure will push past the float and flood. here is an inexpensive set up from ebay

If the mechanical pump still works, you could use the electric pump as a primer.

Just turn it on long enough to fill the carb and get it started, then let the mechanical pump take over.

If you can blow through the electric pump, the mechanical pump can draw through it.

Or just leave the old pump in the hole and by-pass it altogether. Saves having to come up with a cover plate.

I'd bypass the mechanical one. If the diaphragm goes bad in it, your electric pump will fill your crankcase with gas
