John Deere 45 combine

I have a John Deere 45 combine with a Prestolite IBT-4101R4 distributor in it and I would like to change it to electronic ignition has anyone ever did that to a Pestolite distributor and what number of electronic ignition did they use? I tried to Google it but All I come up with is one's for the Delco distributor and it's different thanks for any day Howard

Call Pertronics, give them the distributor number.

I don't know if they will sell direct, or you may have to go through a distributor like YT, but they can supply the part number.

Also the kit is voltage and polarity specific, you will need that information.

With that distrubator you must have a very late 45 that carried the HC180 engine. The earlier combines used a 145 or 165 engine that the 145 was same engine as in the 2010 tractor, the 165 engine just had a different deck plate and pistons from the 145. Not sure but I think the 180 was same engine as the 2020 tractor. I had 4 different 45 combines, a 62, 63, 65 and a 69 model. The 62,63 and 65 used that same engine while the 69 used the entirely different engine. Check out the online parts books for both a 180 engine and a 2020 tractor and I think you might find The information for the tractor that will get you the information for the combine.

Yes it's really confusing I wish it had the Delco distributor in it there's a lot more information on it thanks

I suspect a Delco distributor would fit, they may even have one already converted.

I went to Ebay and typed in John Deere 2510 electronic (2510 uses 180 gas engine as well as 2020) and a kit is listed for your distributer. Tom

In the mid 50's my dad bought a JD 45 combine. He did a lot of custom work with it.
Back then some called it a self propelled picker sheller not a combine.
