John Deere 4520 Fuel Injector Pump Issues

We recently purchased a 4520 that needs a new or rebuilt fuel injector pump. It still runs but we have found some shavings in it but also have some governor issues with it which I understand is common with one of the pumps used. Problem is that I don't know which pump it is.
My pump is a Stanadyne/RoosaMaster which I believe came with the tractor but I also believe there is a DB/JDB pump that is also used.
I am in the early stages of fixing this problem and am seeing what options I have and weighing them along with the cost. The tractor is not used very much, should I opt for replacing the pump with another brand or have the one I have rebuilt.

Unless the output tubes to the cylinders are exactly the same, you will be into substantial extra cost just to purchase a good used, or rebuilt pump. I would have it repaired/rebuilt. Dieseltech who posts here has a great reputation. Jim
Good point

What is the serial number of your tractor, assuming you know it is still in the original configuration. A photo of the pump would let us identify it. Or here is a link to the parts catalog.
JD 4520 parts
The Fuel and Air Section is 30. Diagrams 30-36, 30-49 and 30-52 show the three different pumps used on the 4520. I’m not an expert, but I think the stubby pump shown in 30-36 is the CB pump.

What does the pump tag say? Hopefully you don't have the morphydite CB model pump.
Sorry for the delay, got a hip replacement a week ago, still moving slow

You asked what is the pump, but it is clearly written Stanadyne JDB.
A 40 dollars seal and ring kit + 2 hours are getting read of the shavings.

2 hours are getting read of the shavings.
That may be possible for someone who has done a couple of them. I wouldn’t recommend to the average Joe to pop one of them open unless they have a lot of mechanical aptitude and patience.
I would recommend you contact Dieseltech and ship it to him for repair.

Thanks for all the responses, very informative. Glad to hear I have the good one. How do I get in contact with Dieseltech?

Here is an explanation of the Private Message feature on YT called “Conversations”
If you want to contact Dieseltech use the Private Message feature called “Conversations” In this case use his reply in your thread and hover over his profile avatar at the left of his reply. Then click “Start Conversation” the form is just like starting a thread but it is private between you and him. If you’re using a phone you need to click his username. To start a Conversation outside of a thread click your envelope or letter icon at the top. Then click Start a Conversation, then start typing the members handle you want to contact in the Recipients box, when recognized it will pop up to select. The rest should be self explanatory. When someone replies to your PM or is initiating a new PM with you a number will show up by your “envelope” icon, click it to view them.
