john deere 455 loader

my loader wqhen it gets up to normal operating temperature will not go in to the high side of the transmission its a 1982 455 reackon it needs the transmission rebuilt any body know any thing about this .

It's probably not a linkage problem..With that you will usually loose low or reverse due to the lever bottoming out in the shift quadrant..A pressure test will show if you are actually dropping pounds of pressure as it heats up..Does it shift right ?? Do you have to use the clutch pedal going from forward to reverse so it doesn't snap your neck ?? If so , adjust the HLR transmission pressures and speed of shift to make a comfortable direction change..You should be able to shift forward to reverse and vice-versa at wide open throttle without launching you over the hood and without using the clutch pedal..It should just pull you off the seat back on a forward to reverse shift without bracing your body [ 2nd gear , high to reverse]..If you go to ARCHIVES , you will find several responses to adjusting that transmission..If you still need help , just holler...R.S.

thanks the crawler shifts good it dose not jerk you around its just when it gets up to operating temperature it want go in to the high side of the transmission low and reverse no problem

If the pressure falls off in high , but works in low and rev. , sounds like an overhaul is in order..
It also might have the engine clutch slipping in high..It should also slip in other ranges if put under load in those ranges..

If all is going well, I've rebuilt a HLR transmission in roughly 20-22 hrs...So figure your hourly rate with these hours..Loader is a little more difficult than dozer [less to work around]..As far as the parts go, I usually just use Deere parts..I haven't experimented with aftermarket..Plates and discs probably would be OK to buy aftermarket..I don't know about hard parts , like oil manifold at the rear of the clutchpacks..Maybe someone else here could shed some light on aftermarket..There's an outfit that is pretty regular here on this website named CH in NY [I think] that sells parts..Maybe he will offer some assistance to you..

do u have any literature on the transmission and can you tell me roughly wat the parts cost dose the transmission have to come out of the loader

The transmission case stays in the machine..You will have to start from the front and work your way to the back..Best to get a Tech Manual and parts book for the machine if you're going to do the job yourself..It can be a little tricky if you haven't been into one before..You can go to the Deere parts website to look up parts and prices..
