John deere 4955 clutch

Im looking at buying a john deere 4955 but the seller states that the clutch is not engaging? He said it shifts through the gears fine but the clutch itself won't engage. Could this be a linkage issue or internal? Do these have a clutch off the motor? Could you run one without a clutch for a year on a baler?

Second problem is the 3 point will raise but not lower? Are these controlled electronically or by linkages?
Thanks in advance

One needs to know which trans(QR or PS) to correctly answer your question?? I think tractor will not operate correctly without either type trans clutch functioning correctly. On subject of rockshaft control it appears to have an electrical switch that I have no personal experience with. Rockshaft piston cap has no rate of drop screw similar to smaller JD rowcrop tractors

It is a ps

At least tell us if you're joking or serious so you don't get a lot of jokes in return.
I think his reply is based on your incorrect use of the wording “not engaging.” As you used it would mean the clutch is not allowing power to transfer from the engine to the transmission. This would mean you would get not movement from the tractor. Most responses here apply “technical writing” terms such as would be used in a manual to describe function of a part. So it seems to me that the clutch in the tractor must not be disengaging. I don’t have much experience with the 15 speed power shift transmissions but I know you can drive a JD 8 speed power shift with very minimal use of the inching pedal/clutch. The problem with telling you to use it like this could be that there is a mechanical problem holding the clutch engaged and that might cause additional damage and spread filings throughout the transmission and hydraulic system. On second thought a mechanically locked clutch pack would cause binding in a gear which that clutch pack is not utilized. Since hydraulic pressure applies the clutches in this transmission my guess is that through pressure tests the problem could be easily diagnosed. The problem could be as simple as a torn oring or something stuck or broke in the clutch valve.
