John Deere 50 value?

A friend's father-in-law has to move into an apartment. He'll eventually have to sell a John Deere Model 50 (model year was 1952) in what is described to me as dirty but working condition. It has a wide front (which I think is less common). I have seen neither the tractor nor pictures so am probably asking for pure speculation. But I'm sure you JD people can tell me what Model 50s have been selling for in the last few years in whatever condition - great to barely running. Can you help? Thank you.

If it is a Deere wide front, and the tractor runs probably $1800-2000. More if it has correct and complete 3 pt hitch. The front end alone should bring $900. Still alot depends on appearance, tire condition, any other options(fenders, power steering, tachometer, wheel weights etc)You can deduct from the above price if it has a bad manifold, rusted out battery box,tin work is beat up. It would have be at least a 1953,as that was the first year for them.

A few years ago I bought a 1956 JD 50 with original paint, power steering, three point, live pto, narrow front with rollomatic, inop tachometer, good tires, and field ready for $2500 dollars. Not a steal but everything worked good and she had not been worked hard. A very versatile tractor for mowing, raking, pulling wagons, etc and very good on gas. I even used it to pull a 3x14 mounted plow on fun plowing days. Just be aware if it is not in good mechanical shape you can pour a lot of money into it. Unless you are a good mechanic, I would spend a bit more money and buy one in good shape. There seems to be a lot of them for sale now days...check Green Magazine and Ebay.
