John Deere 50

Hi, my friend has a 50 John Deere that hasn't run in a while and has sat out for a long time. The radiator cap has broken off at some point, and can't a replacement can't be bought to put on the tractor without fixing the broken metal that came off with it. Does anyone know how much work would go into fixing the radiator cap? I was also wondering if anyone knew how a 50 was crank started, if 50 had this capability. Thanks for the help.

There is an access in the center of the sheet metal that covers the flywheel. It's designed for a key that fits into the steering wheel.

Does the 50 have decompression petcocks? If not, you'll get a heck of a workout.

You can buy a fitting for the cap that fits in the radiator from several after market companies.

Deere still sells the part you need for radiator. It just presses in.
